Two days ago
I died my hair
blue;
maybe to match
the colour of the sky;
maybe to match
my football team;
maybe to match
how I’ve been feeling lately.
.
Green means go
GO
GO
GO;
the busyness of life
that started back up
after sicknesses settled;
how do I
jump back in
to being green
when I have
been feeling
so blue?
.
Red means danger;
the danger that I see
in every person
when I walk
down the street;
hand in hand
with my love;
and she sees it too.
Red with danger;
red with anger;
red with the passion
of our love.
.
Pink is for girls;
and blue is for boys;
arbitrary boxes
that keep us
pinned down.
.
Yellow is my favourite;
J Balvin song;
my favourite colour
as a kid;
the colour of my wall,
behind my bed
in my childhood home;
the colour of the sun
that warms our skin,
the centre of
mother nature's world .
.
Purple became
my favourite
when I turned ten,
because yellow was not
girly enough;
as I got pushed
deeper
into my box;
and when I
broke free,
yellow came racing back
into first place.
.
Orange lights up
the sky at dusk,
dancing in the clouds;
as the sun
goes down,
and day
turns to night.
.
All of the colours
that make up our earth;
and our flag
that flies in the wind.
.
Above buildings,
above people,
all of the time,
in my beautiful city;
especially in Jan
on a Midsumma night .
.
Across the world;
all of the time,
in beautiful cities;
especially in June
across parades and parties
and in people's homes.
.
Joy.
Love.
Pride.
.
And I wish the rest
of the world
could be
like that;
could be full
of joy;
love;
and pride.
.
Could accept
our colours
for what they are;
could learn from them;
the beauty
of our colours.
