Blood and Ink

Breaking the Skin

Blood and Ink
Photo by Christoph Keil on Unsplash

Steel meets flesh and draws out blood like a thirsty mosquito

Cutting red valleys through the skin

gushing

swelling

scabbing

scarring

Torturing one's self and calling it therapy

Whether it be a blade or a needle to paint pictures of

loving

losing

crying

fighting

Dealing with demons that can not be fought or seen

By the naked eye but shown in the

rose

dove

tombstone

hummingbird

As the blade cuts and scars and blemishes

The needle cuts and scars and heals in vibrant color providing

beauty

elegance

reminiscence

closure

The scars from the blade cannot be taken back

The scars from the needle won't be taken back

When filled with blood and ink.

surreal poetry
