There’s a firestorm outside my window,
The sky is red, the world is raw.
The Devil’s come to claim his trophy.
“Once more unto the breach”, they call.
~*~
The fight is fierce, the price is brutal,
Rifles rock the whole night through.
We make our stand along the frontline,
Our eyes are black, our bodies blue.
~*~
Do you fear death as I do?
Share the dreams that won’t come true?
Give our futures for the cause,
Defend all that we ever knew.
~*~
~*~
See the lights shine in the distance,
I wonder if the people thought
We’d spill their blood upon these mountains,
And strip this nation down to naught.
~*~
We fight our way through blood and fire,
And push them back towards the sea,
Raze their earth and steal their treasure,
All justified by God’s decree.
~*~
Do you share the same guilt I do?
Hear the screams that haunt the night?
A symphony of violent slaughter,
The war that we were forced the fight.
~*~
~*~
They came in hard and showed no mercy,
To neither men nor women – nor children, too.
Reduced our homes to ash and cinder,
A destruction we can’t ever undo.
~*~
Generations left in ruin,
Dead, enslaved – their spoils of war.
We shan’t forgive, must never forget,
The day those monsters broke our shore.
~*~
Do you feel the same rage I do,
For the enemy who ruined our lives?
Will history recall our struggle?
Or will we be resigned to time?
~*~
~*~
A land they ordered us to conquer,
That – or stand against the wall.
When it began, we were twice as many.
What was the purpose of it all?
~*~
I’ll walk this earth, I’ll drown the memories,
I’ll touch the graves of men I knew,
And try to forget those days of horror,
But ghosts are foes you cannot subdue.
~*~
Do you hate yourself as I do?
Wish the world would swallow you whole?
Then take a seat here at my table,
You’ve found a fellow tortured soul.
