A Conversation

Between two separated lovers.

Do you still love me?

With all of my heart.

How can that be?

We’re not so far apart.

But you left me alone.

You know that’s not fair.

I won’t survive on my own.

My love, don’t despair.

That’s easier said—

I know, it is hard.

With an empty space in the bed.

You must let down your guard.

How can I go on—

Let your grieving soul rest.

Now that you are gone?

And let hope be your guest.

All the flowers have died.

It’s what flowers do.

No matter how hard I tried.

Just like people, too.

Must you be so blunt?

You know that I’m right.

It’s hard to confront.

Take it slow, night by night.

Did you feel much pain?

No – of that there’s no doubt.

Can you explain?

The light just went out.

And then it was dark?

Like darkness, but bright.

That makes no sense.

I suppose that you’re right.

Well – was it frightening?

It was a little bit scary.

Was it thunder and lightning?

No – it was eerie.

So, in the end, it was peaceful?

Like sunshine breaking a mist.

For that, I am grateful.

It’s more than we might have wished.

I wished for more time—

Were that in my control—

For you to be mine.

I would have traded my soul.

Is there space for me there?

No love – not yet.

Now who’s unfair?

But one day – don’t fret.

I’ll step out of this mist?

You’ll see me once more.

Standing there, sun kissed.

And we’ll dance, like before.

Is it time now to sleep?

Yes, it’s so late.

In my dreams, will we meet?

My love, it’s a date!

I hope that we do.

Shut your eyes and let go.

I miss you – I love you.

Sweet husband, I know.
