Black History's Diverse Shades

Mike's $ October prompt.

By Antoni De'LeonPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

"STANDING FIRM IN POWER AND PRIDE"...Is the theme for Black History month, celebrated October 1 through October 31st in the UK.

Beneath the surface brews a silent storm, yet stories rise

Lit by the glow of ancestral fireflies, blazing bright

Across time, roots and branches thread resistance

Carved into history with quiet persistence

Knowledge blooms where roots once bled

Hope is a house built from echoes and dread

In every shadow, a name reclaims light, we lift you up

Souls running in rhythm, surviving the dreaded night

Truth walks barefoot through history’s halls...Bold

Overcoming erasure with murals and calls for Power

Ravens remember pain and sorrow...what textbooks forget,

Yearning for justice, we rise, not clothed in regret -we march

Many years, centuries may pass, but the pulse remains

Old songs reborn in new refrains

Narratives layered in ink and breath, passed down

Telling us: legacy outlives death - pride uplifts life

Holding space for the stories still unsaid- unsung.

~~~~~~
Black communities---Stand up and be counted. We are branches and roots of a majestic ancient tree, its roots intertwined with the mystical symbols of our beginning. The leaves are Africa's many children, casting shadows on the mossy ground. Wisps of iridescent mist curl around its base of hidden magic. Vibrant Afrocentric artistry, with bold patterns rich in textures.
Lead the way with pride, dignity and grace through adversity. Contributions of Black heritage and culture our gift to ourselves
Roots and branches follow different paths, yet always return to the mother tree.
Joining hands with brothers, sisters and friends across the world.
For we are all one nation...United we stand. Divided we fall.
  • Love your words in thei acrostic and the image is wonderful
  • This is beautiful Antoni. I love what you had to say at the end, “ For we are all one nation...United we stand. Divided we fall.” This is basically a philosophy for me: no matter the skin color, the language you speak, where you are born, male or female, whether you are a trans person or LGBTQ - I believe we are all one and in this life together. It is important that we support each other. To me black history month is important to me not only because I have relatives of color and I have a heritage that has roots tracing back to Africa but also it is important to keep the history, heritage, and pride alive. Thank you for such a wonderful poem.
    We are all made in God's image no matter color, creed or national origin. This would be a great acrostic to post somewhere in February for Black history month. Good job.
