Black and White

a poem...

By Cat MitchellPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Things should never be

Just black and white.

For if you have no color,

You have no life.

Sometimes, you must get things wrong

So you can get it right.

I would die happy.

If I died tonight.

An empty life

is an empty soul.

A life that's full

is a life that's whole.

The life I've lived

has been good and bad.

But I would not change

the life I've had.

Black girl abused.

Black woman denied.

But I shook it off

And still I rise.

I could stand and shout

My independence.

But without my team,

I would not win it.

I love to laugh.

And I laugh to live.

To my inner circle,

my last I'd give.

Surrounded by friends and family

Bathed in love.

Now remembering

The little girl I was.

Looking back

Along the path I've walked.

Remembering lessons

That life has taught.

The love of my life

Is at my side

And my commitment to him,

Cannot be denied.

Thanking Source for grace

And how it's covered me.

Gratitude will be my lifeline

Until they bury me.

But don't get it twisted,

I may still get off track.

But I will never go away

So there will be no comeback.
