Binary
a poem about the frustrating existence of a non-binary human
By Mason PinesPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

gender is a newspaper
to which I do not subscribe
life is hard enough
without these arbitrary rules
that, objectively, make no sense
why are girls expected to sit
quiet and complacent
while boys are told to
conquer the world?
and what about
those of us
who do not fit in the
neat little boxes
our society has created?
yes, that’s right.
we are expected to
conform
to the
burden
of our assigned sex.
sex
does not
equal
gender.
I am not a
woman.
nor am I a
man.
I
am
me.
