Beyond the Murk, Rainbows

for the scallywags and vagabonds

This is a time to gather my stolen chandelier crystals and dust them off

A time to hang them where the sun will fracture their light into a thousand frolicking fairies

Bouncing off walls, kettle, popcorn maker

Long ago, I reached up and unhooked these gems from their fancy lamps in hotel lobbies and restaurants

Freed them from their duty to dazzle diners scarfing down filet mignon while chewing the fat

I scored a glittering prism from the legendary La Scala where I went one evening with a bunch of vagabonds

A troop of scallywags - or La-Scala-wags

One had come into an inheritance and treated us other wagabonds to food and drink and loud merriment

Standing on a velvety staircase of scarlet and gold I treated myself to a crystal - just one

Now I thread bits of sparkly string through tiny moorings

And when sunbeams shine through the screened and murky glass of my kitchen window

For one fabulous slice of golden time

These luminous teardrops and spears (my brilliant contraband)

Cast spells on all who see them

And all who don't

inspirational

La-Scala-wag! I'm sure they've never missed it and it serves a far higher purpose reflecting light in your kitchen.

  • A combination of my love of prisms of all kinds & the contraband of "How I Met Your Mother"'s blue French horn.
