Beyond Beautiful Hearts

Susceptible Scars

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

I've found myself

forgotten -

impetuously

deserted

cast aside

like the leaves on the trees

almost magically -

intentions, magnified

swiftly carried away

on an intended breeze

abandoned

on cold city streets

nothing of me

was considered to stay

when everything I loved

chose

to walk away

with no words to say

a ripple lost in the waves

smiles given

given back

a faded rose

on the grave

predisposed and

imagined

everything lacking

discarded

out of fashion

faded beyond memory

no value

to be seen

exchanged

fantasy

ones unanimously viewed

as much

lovelier than me

imprints made

now

aptly applied

and put into motion

for the beauty

"in the eye"

came disguised

as a trojan

became truth

beyond question

my own views

distorted

every transgression

cataloged

and sorted

until all I could see

was their vision of me

discarded

unworthy

like those abandoned leaves

discarded in eaves

rotting

forgotten

in piles on the street

    That was brutal, great work

  • This hit me so had because it resonated so deeply with me. I'm so sorry you feel this way too 🥺 Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

This is stunningly beautiful and desperately sad, Kelli. The short lines help create the rhythm of the poem and magnify the heartache. Really striking poetry.

Oh my, that was amazing, sadly. Well done.

Quite the poem of someone who I believe is being totally honest about a relationship and how it affected them. Great work that would also work as a journal article.

    Wow, this is beautifully written!

Whoa, this one hits like a quiet storm—soft but powerful. That imagery? Top-tier, especially the way you wove "abandoned leaves" into the whole vibe. The flow feels like the tide—steady, relentless, and emotional. Honestly, your ability to make pain this poetic? That’s a gift, even if the feelings behind it sting.✨😊
