Beware of Your Motivations
For they can destroy you

Motivations are our fuels,
they make us do what we do,
we are convinced that
what our motivations ask us to do
is right.
We don’t even want to listen,
to any wise advice,
or even our own conscience.
I will give example of myself
and that of my two tiny kids.
The infant was trying
to learn walking.
Everything he found—
cardboard box, bag, cushion—
he pushed it,
as if it was a walker.
His desire to walk
makes him test everything.
The four-year-old daughter
loved dress-up.
She had her wardrobe
and accessories.
But in order to always achieve
a pretty princess look,
she was testing everything
she found around the house—
as tiara, belt, necklace.
I desire to establish myself
as a prolific writer.
I want to tell stories
based on my experiences,
thoughts, and knowledge.
So I am always looking
for inspiration and plots.
Everything seems to me
as potential story material.
Whenever I get some leisure,
I am creating drafts.
You see, our motivations
are the proverbial carrots
dangling from sticks
in front of us.
If they are not there,
we will not prod our horses
to gallop.
Make sure
the motivation is driving you
in the right direction,
because galloping towards
the wrong direction
vicious, not only vain.
