Between Stones and Sky

A Poem

In our own time, Lee.

I fell yesterday,

After stepping beyond the beaten path,

Where I had ever walked, hopelessly lost

In my time, Lee,

In my life, Lee,

Humming songs no one knows,

But you.

Through all these years walking that same path,

I would glance sideways at the stones beyond,

And see myself stepping out among them,

Only to fall,

And break.

Still I wondered.

I must have heard your song from beyond the stones,

As still, you wandered.

Lee, now I see you.

Your heart shines through despite itself,

Your fire, behind walls of stone.

My light is a candle, brave in this old world,

And yours a glow, subliminal.

Am I too inconstant?

Are you too far inside?

Can we set our paths ablaze?

I’d like to try,

In our own time, Lee.
