Between Heaven and Earth

Poem

By James SeabrookPublished about a month ago 1 min read

These roots hold echoes of things I could never say

Twisted and buried in the earth

Cemented in ways that feel immovable

Past lifetimes full of love and loss

Plugged directly into source

Stabilizing yet stuck in the same place

I wrestle with their gnarled arms

Begging us to move to more fertile soil

Yet they stay firm in their resolve

You are from here

You are of this place

My soul screams for the sky

Reaching for something I forgot

Dying to bridge heaven and earth

My branches ache for the sun

For the carefree expression of the wind

Dancing here and there into new lands

Changing direction without notice

It stretches me to my limit

Trying not to lose touch

With the earth and the sky
