Being Mom

Learning life

By Abby GriffinPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

They all need something from me.

And I start with so much

I want to give.

A hug and a kiss and,

“I love you.”

A tug on my clothes and,

“Mommy, watch this!”

A climb on my back and,

“Come play with me.”

The baby needs feeding and

is getting teeth.

“I want to sit with you, too, Mom”

And I don’t want her to feel left out

so all three of us smoosh on the chair together.

My laughter at her joke wasn’t “real enough”

but it was too harsh for the baby

and now they’re both crying.

And they’ll only be calm again if Mom holds them tight.

By the end of the day

I have nothing left to give.

I need someone to fill me up,

so I can give it all again tomorrow.
