Before the Earth Was Born

Before the earth was born, she wept. She knew the path, she knew the cost.

Before the earth was born, I saw,

Behind the thick, dark cloud of time,

A mother waiting who was she?

What world did she hold inside?

She whispered to Herself,

"Will my child know love or war?

Will rivers flow with songs of peace,

Or will they run with blood once more?"

She shaped the hills, she carved the seas,

She lit the stars with careful hands,

But did she fear what lay ahead?

Would her child obey her plans?

Brother will rise against his own,

And nations crumble into dust.

But in the end, will light remain?

Will love still stand when all is lost?

Before the earth was born, she wept.

She knew the path, she knew the cost.

And yet, with hope, she breathed it forth

A world now found, a world once lost.
