Send me down to the riverbank
Where as a child I ran
Unencumbered by adult pains
Or adult thoughts
Before becoming a man
****
Bring me back to that little me
I yearn to be him again
The little me with no worries
Or a soul that’s scarred
Happily chasing friends
****
Give me the peace of childhood joy
Before a thousand tears were shed
Unshackled from life’s regrets
Or shattered dreams
And unkind words were said
****
Help me find that boyhood comfort
Before I lost my youth
Free from these sleepless nights
Or the mirror’s image
That shows my age as truth
****
Release me from these aches of age
Let me be young again
Running along the riverbank
Or skipping stones
Before I became a man.

Gerald, I really have a deep appreciation for this piece! I think a lot of us would share this sentiment, the idea of going back to when days felt a lot simpler and less burden heavy. This was a great piece to give me pause and cause for reflection, remembering the inner peace of childhood. Such a great reminder of what it means to be free and the importance of holding on to your inner child! So well written and well said Gerald!
Excellent read. This took me back to some of those same places in my mind and heart. Thank you for sharing.
"Bring me back to that little me...," who longed to be old enough to play with the bigger kids, drive a car, go to an R rated movie (without having to sneak in), to be done with high school, college, on my own. Whenever I find myself yearning for those carefree days, I try to remember how much yearning there was in me back then. That having been said, I do often find myself thinking these very same thoughts.
Awesome work Gerald!
Gosh it would be so nice to be young again! Loved your poem!

If only, my friend. At my age, I'm hoping senility will be close enough. Congratulations on your upcoming Top Story.
If you figure how to get there, I want to go to. Great job on this.
Profound, friend. If only we could recapture a little of that childhood innocence, we'd all be a lot happier😉Pernoste
