Bedtime Story

Whispers from the Closet

By Amos GladePublished 2 years ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Good night sweet tender child.

You’ve adventured all day long.

You’ll get tucked in and

soon begin

to dream a child’s song.

Feel safe inside your blankets.

A nightlight soon emits,

a glowing orb of light;

that’s cozy, calm, and white,

but tonight it’s on the fritz.

Close your eyes and just ignore,

the sounds under the bed.

The thing you thought a mighty roar,

was all inside your head.

And when you start to feel too hot,

don’t begin to fret.

There is no major monster plot,

there is no need to sweat.

Go ahead and slip on out,

I won’t dine to beg.

Just one little precious foot,

maybe one whole leg.

The scratch you hear among the walls,

is nothing to despair.

Just close your eyes and

wet your lips

to say your final prayer.

If you have your worries,

if you have your woes,

hide inside the closet,

walk on tippy-toes.

Good night sweet tender child.

I delight in dream-filled moans.

I watch and wait

for the right time

to devour marrow from your bones.
