I’ve forgiven you — right? For your creation of dreadful days and nights; for the manipulation, for the deceit and the lies. For the questions you led to which accidentally fed into some of my deepest insecurities.

I mean, you were definitely not the worst of the ones I’ve dealt with in years past. You were hardly worse than some of those I’ve had the displeasure of dealing with more recently as well, if you wish to ask.

Not that I imagine you’d particularly care to do so, as I didn’t even mean that much to you anyways deep down in your soul.

That being said, sometimes I wonder to myself in the neural pathways of my head: did I only choose to forgive you because that’s what society tends to recommend and expect?

You’re a guy from an honestly rather privileged background, if I’m going to be blunt. First of all, you were born in a loving family; hardly were you their runt.

Your ancestry from them is pretty clearly of America’s old settlers of white, no matter how much some of your persona seems to mildly present otherwise. Given your parents’ jobs, you being of old money would hardly be a surprise.

This isn’t to say you haven’t faced any hardship, of course. Someone with your talent and personality, after all, is always doomed to be both powerfully blessed and yet, somewhere hidden, cursed.

While you might keep your inner and outer circles in check, actually keeping them close seems to have frequently given you some sort of long-run dread.

Don’t get me wrong: you’re very charismatic. Somewhat begrudgingly, I admire the gist of your marketing tactics.

You keep others in line: they get your protection in return on the grind. However, it sometimes seems like an affair of matters on one side.

Ultimately, whether it’s your friends or your foes: you have power. With few exceptions, it would, quite frankly, be foolish for them to do anything about you unless you truly failed their herd.

Even then, it would take mountains of files on yourself for scrutiny to come alive and well.

In the end, though, I guess it doesn’t really matter why I forgave you. Not much can be done, whether things turn out false or true.

Perhaps it’s for the better that someone as lucky as you is in charge. Keeping your position, after all, is quite the art.
