Obsession

A dangerous thing…

There are those in this world who struggle

With obsessions on the double

Whether large or small, harmless or not

They seem to put them through troubles

Some of these are addictions to people:

Twisted love, desire upheaval

Emotions warping into demons

Which drive holders to lose their reason.

Others are more material

Money, gadgets, books about heroes;

Jewels and costumes made to wear out

With little time given, despite their clout.

Yet some obsessions are those of ideals:

Fortune, fame, power revealed.

Things you can’t just hold in your hands

But in your head, they truly stand.

No matter what, obsession is danger

Wrapped in a bow, but merely a stranger

Designed to take time from your life

And have it directed to fiery strife

It’s okay to dream and work for your goals

But don’t lose focus on other chores

In your day, or the ones you love the most

Lest you eternally lose the score.
