as thin as the layer of ice on a limb
I've guarded my heart so that no one gets in
this icy protection keeps me safe and warm
an armor devised like a vault in the storm
a glassy insulation, forbidding and cool
a self imposed layer I use as a tool
to ward off invasions, invaders and such
beautiful to behold, but bitter to touch
but kept deep within this wintery chill
is a warm hopeful heart, incubating love still
waiting for one who can handle the fragile
uncover my heart and this fortress, unravel
until then, I'm wrapped in this vast wonderland
till the thaw of my frost, meets the touch of his hand
