Beauty
“Character of the Spirit”
Long, hot, sultry, summer nights
Sounds of the locust and katydid
Songs, with nature’s music and beat
In rhythm by the light of fireflies
Marveled by stories, folktale, dance of yesterdays past
Bygone days felt we had to mask
Black, Brown, Fair skin and defined lips
Like jewels described our hips
In time realized, we’re made the same
All man and woman, White
Brown, Black and beautiful
Our real colors, character
Of the spirit, beauty shinning
Through like a spectrum, inside and out
Of me and you, White, Black and Brown
Character of the spirit and heart
