Beautiful Imperfection

An poem about being wondrously imperfect

Beautiful imperfection is a coffee mug

a little oversized

 with an oddly shaped handle

Hands wrapped around, it's as soothing and warm as any old mug

yet somehow,

more comforting in ways you can't explain

Beautiful imperfection is pottery molded by a first-time potterer

as it transforms into a peculiar shape

ugly, amusing,

yet beautifully unique

A true work of art

Beautiful imperfection is a young child's drawing

oddly drawn, colors don't make sense

stick figures arms are longer than the other

Yet a wondrous masterpiece as it hangs on the fridge

It is the way some fruit grows on the tree

deformed, different from the others

often overlooked

yet just as tasty as the normal looking ones,

 maybe if not more

Beautiful imperfection is … you!

It’s so crazy how we love the things that are imperfect like an oversized coffee mug with an oddly shaped handle, we may even put it on display or use it. But as soon as we exhibit anything close to this… imperfection….we destroy ourselves, we become a built in bully. I like the choice of imagery, zooming in on the imperfect things. Learning how to say they are beautiful. Just like that white flower. I like the examples too, the first time potterer. A child’s drawing. The fruits, oh especially the fruits. This was a nurturing piece, catering to my mental health. Thank you! I’ve got an active internal bully that won’t shut up sometimes. Well done and thank you once again. Your free verse was a huge help, these types of poetry is always needed 🙏🏽👏🏽👌🏽
