Beasts

From Across the Room

By Ellie RaePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Over there

From across the room

It’s you again.

In a room filled with dancing silhouettes

Their bodies flailing

Like wild animals.

But my focus;

My gaze…

Is on you.

I am tame.

Quiet

Reserved

From across the room.

But you

Open up the cage and unleash me.

This feeling…

I am no longer myself.

I am wild.

A boar

Raging, screeching

Lightning blue with luminescent light

Out of my chest

Can he see it?

I reach for it

Contain it

Conceal it.

But then

A Mustang

Wild and untamed

Explodes out of me.

Rearing and whinnying.

Frightened and eager.

Again encased in electric light

A raging fire of a beast.

I hope he cannot see it.

Now a black rhinoceros

Charges from within me.

It stomps its legs

As wide as tree trunks

It shakes the room;

Makes itself known.

Perhaps he can see it.

A falcon,

A whale,

A jaguar,

A wolf.

I morph and mutate.

Into beasts.

My heart races with each

Claw I grow.

With each feather sprouted.

I want him to see it.

What becomes of me when I see you?

Even over there

From across the room

You make me feel alive.

Wild and free.

I am one with the silhouettes.

Thrashing,

Dancing.

And it’s because of you

From across the room.
