Be You For Me
I know your story and I feel your pain. Your progression is also or gain.

How does the sky look to you?
Is it any other color than blue?
Because if it’s black then I see it, and I see you too.
At night, the moonlight compliments your brown skin as it glazes over your face with a layer ever so thin.
Even though it gives your look a flattery spin, it cannot outdo the work God has put in.
Because he made you to shine so bright, you are the reflection of daylight.
There is just one sun
and in it lies the reason why melanin has always won.
From the most powerful light source available,
you’ve shown us that all things are capable.
And with that, we love you for being unapologetically black.
Anyone with an eye can see that our skin makes us kin,
so of course we want to see you win.
Don’t think for a second that you’re the only one that sees the light in a black sky.
Some of us watch from our windows in fear, waiting for you to fly.
And when you do, maybe we’ll step outside ready to reach for the sky.
And like you, we will too
leave that fear behind.
