Be grounded and love

Poem

By RAOMPublished about a month ago 1 min read

How many times do you shake?

Fearing your heart will break?

Stop for a moment, stop.

Love is an inflated balloon.

It shrinks down.

In one second.

Pay attention to what I am saying:

A pink rose is not true love;

Nor is it everlasting.

I remember my dad writing little poems.

He did not spend much time thinking about them.

He wrote from the depths of his own soul.

For my mom.

For years.

Years of love and devotion.

Not bubbles blowing in the wind.

Love is like the rain.

That nourishes the parched land—

The earth is love.

So are our hearts.

At times, it is painful.

When you hurt it.

Dig.

You have to imagine the greatest dreams.

You have to plant the seed.

You have to pull out the poisonous weed.

You have to wait.

Do not simply let the world decide your path.

This bitter, black herb —

Do not mistake its taste.

It tastes bitter to me, too.

Yet, we require it.

Just as we require hardship—

so that we may develop a strong heart,

and strong branches.

It takes time to heal,

like the flow of a river

that has a melody as it moves.

Now get started.

Give it your everything.

But be grounded to the earth.

I like the focus of this poem. In a world where love is advertised, marketed, packaged, and sold, there has to be a voice speaking truth as to what love really is...how it functions as well as the strength, depth, and breadth of it. No shortcuts. No cheap veneers and facades. Thank you for writing and sharing!

Be grounded in the Earth...be grounded in love. As we should all be. This was beautiful, Sabrina.
