When I was a young boy
My mother said to me
Forget about wealth and riches son
Just live your life being free
I saw her struggles and her strifes
Enough to fill up a thousand lives
And I heed those words my mother said to me
"My darling, I just want you to be free"
Don't waste your time on chasing money
It'll only make you cold and lonely
Have you ever seen a rich man truly happy?
Don't go judging people by their looks
You wouldn't judge the cover of a written book
This world is big but I've given you the key
"My darling, I just want you to be free"
There's stories waiting out there for you to read
you'll see them on the faces of the people you'll meet
You could die tomorrow so why spend today being mean?
You won't live forever so seize the day
You can make a small difference in a special way
You could change the world even if it's only by a small degree
"My darling, I just want you to be free"
If you have to do wrong then do it for love
You can always pray after to our lord above
Nothing's wrong with wearing your heart upon your sleeve
Keep this moment forever locked in your mind
And carry it with you for the rest of time
Grow up to be a good man for me and your family
"My darling, I just want you to be free"
