***

the silence bleeds heavy as it severs my tongue

while my heart quietly hangs in the balance

like a mother compelled to eating her young

resigned ADHD paralyse

keeping the words unsaid, tied up tight

so that the truth can never get out

some days I would rather die

than to continuously suffer this drought

for the silence is deafening

and you won't hear me out

justice comes with the reckoning

but never out of my mouth

This is a very familiar feeling, Kelli, plus I've watched my youngest suffer with this at times.

  • That frozen moment when you cannot decide which step to take, though a single step in any direction is all that is required. It's not just something known by those with ADHD, though I'm guessing that for those who suffer both it is particularly harrowing.

Well written, Kelli. This took me back to my son's school years, when ADHD was still misunderstood in many ways. I remember his paralytic moments vividly.

I feel the ache in this. That kind of silence when you can't speak but everything inside is screaming, it's brutal. Thank you for putting it into words.
