Balancing the Blue with the Green
An ode to my love of teal, cyan, or aquamarine
Mixed in equal parts blue and green,
The calmness you bring me is easily seen.
Though you may only be a hint in the stormy sky,
You’re the tint that paints the galaxies over high.
Captivating us in the jungle flora,
Mesmerizing all in the dancing aurora.
Showing balance in the dialectic,
Bringing inspiration to the eclectic.
Aqua, cyan, teal, turquoise and aquamarine,
Even your names feel serene.
Thank you for being such a wonderful hue,
For balance is best represented by you.

Teal – the Colour of Peace & Balance (to me)
As a kid my parents let me try a bunch of different team sports. One of the first was soccer where I was a proud member of the Teal Tornadoes. We were named for the beautiful, reflective jerseys we got. I remember seeing that colour and needing to know everything about it. It became my favourite colour right there and then. With the name of the colour now in my vocabulary and the love of it well secured, I started noticing it everywhere – as it was the perfect blend of green and blue. It was the colour of the community pool, it blended with grays on a stormy day, it could be found in the water of the mountain lakes and prominent in a lot of my cartoons.
