balance.

how it all works from the inside out

when the whole world is runnin’ wild

I am sittin’ on the balcony

of my mind

takin’ a chill pill to calm down

all my nerves

operatin’ at full pelt

when

the hippocampus decided that

long-term memories

have to come out

to the surface level

where the limbic system replaces

a protector belief

from the past

by contactin’ the amygdala

to react

with fight, flight, or freeze response

to the threat

of the traumatic memories

equipped with cortisol

in large amount

distortin’ the logical message

so as to keep the hippocampus from contractin’

and amygdala from enlargin’

I rebuild

my grey matter

increasin’

the hippocampal volume

counteractin’

the hyperarousal of the amygdala

reducin’ cortisol

and returnin’

to the balanced state

correctin’

the biochemical short-circuitin’

as if cuttin’ with a knife

wrongly enforced

criminal connections

so that I can end up

at the level that is most dear to me

before it all started to bother me
