Awaited Stars

A poem

You were always worth waiting for

And I waited a long time for you

I always felt there was something missing

But what it was, I never knew

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

I waited for you through sorrow

I waited for you through fear

Sometimes I was scared of missing out

Afraid you'd show up while I'm not here

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

I worried I wouldn't be perfect

That I wouldn't be fully healed

Worried you might see parts of me

I kept hidden behind a shield

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

While that shield protected me

It prevented me from fully letting go

But you are worth growing for

I'm blessed you're someone I get to know

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

And you've always been worth waiting for

In every sense of those words

I loved you from the very first kick

From the first cry I ever heard

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

You make me second guess everything

I can't run. I've stopped in my tracks

You make me analyze everything

Make me realize all I lack

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

You make me better

Make me stronger than I thought

For you, there's nothing I wouldn't do

No battle will ever go un-fought

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

You've protected me all this time

Kept my heart safe inside of yours

Never stood up for myself

But for you, I'd fight in wars

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

I'd wait for you hopefully

No matter where you are

I'd wait a million years

I'd count each individual star

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

The first time I saw each smile

It was like hearing, "I'm sorry I was late"

But if the prize is being your mother

You three are always worth the wait

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
