Autumn Nights

Poem

By Elizabeth TownsendPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Autumn nights of old

Now only feel cold

I wish I could reclaim

How those nights once were

Looking across the fire

Seeing your bright smile

Brighter than the brightest flame

Now there is emptiness

Where you once sat

Wishing those days had lasted

I hate seeing the open spot

Why did you have to go

It was much too soon

One day I will see you again

I know in my heart I will

It doesn’t make now any easier

I miss you every day

Can’t wait to see your smile

Looking across the fire

That empty space full

To never be empty again

Wishing those days had lasted

I hate seeing the open spot

Why did you have to go

It was much too soon
