When the Cooler Air Warms the Soul

The trees set the inky sky ablaze with flashes of oranges and reds.

Crisp leaves form ladened blankets woven with pungent smoke, layered on sweet musky beds.

A cricket chirps, torpid and alone, as the flames crack and the squirrels lay down their heads.

Stray sticks fuel the fire dancing in the night, I close my eyes as the warmth spreads.

I savor the bittersweet taste resting on my tongue as a new season sheds.
