Autumn Daze

The changing of the seasons brings forth hope of renewal.

By Ashley HoustonPublished 3 months ago 1 min read
A picture I took on a family trip to Gatlinburg in the fall of 2016.

Just for this moment

I’ll pretend that everything is okay

That there aren’t bills to pay

As we play in the hay

This autumn afternoon

Crunching colorful leaves

Beneath bare feet

Holding a warm cup

Sipping pumpkin spice coffee

Blowing away the steam

Shedding a few pounds of stress

To end the theme

Of too many months past

The chill in the air

Brings that familiar foreboding

Of wintery thrill

That some day soon

The world will change

Like the seasons

Bringing growth

Bringing equality

Allowing society to change

To grow into a better version

Of its self

So for just today

I’ll pretend that everything is okay

That there aren’t worries eating us away

As we forge forward

For a better tomorrow

Leaving our anxieties

Leaving our depression

Our self doubts in the dust

On this crisp autumn day
