Atlas

I am not

By Emily McGuffPublished about a year ago 1 min read

My chest heaves

Battling for breath

As your shadow swallows me

-

You cling to me

But I can’t support us both

In this spinning world

-

I stand on the verge

Obnoxiously aware of the step

That would plummet me into the depths

Of insanity

-

Your fingers pull and plunder

I stand on the verge

At my shredding remains

plummet into the depths

But Atlas I am not

And this globe will crush me

-

You, a sea of black holes, gather

Eager to claim a piece

Of this ebbing star

-

Boast to the cosmos your worth

You’ve sustained yourself

On the last of my embers

-

I stand on the verge

Obnoxiously aware of the step

That will plummet me into the depths

Of insanity

-

Your fingers pull and plunder

At my shredding remains

But Atlas I am not

And this globe will crush me

-

Black dots gouge my peripherals

I am withering, and dying

Will you remember me

When my light is fading

Will you remember (x2)

You extinguished me?
