Atlantic new moon

poem VII

Atlantic new moon

low lidded in the light

near a budding oleander

birds of paradise nod

surrounded by white pebbles

while

seabirds circulate breezily above a

cliff top

breathing easy

I imagine

laughing

waves in the eye squinting slightly

at the white sand

and

as I said before

low lidded

corner eye creased

ambivalence

to what the world wants from one

to what is required to weight the balance

from wanting to

favour

just

take another toke

surrender

to a convenient gust

they are always available and

as a matter of fact

intrinsic to the laws

of a coastline

it’s true I’m

coasting and can

flip the bird at convention

so to speak

nature poetry
