Asleep in November
a poem
My fingers tensed a month ago
the dark inching forward at sinister speed
dying leaves distracting in all their wretched beauty
as warmth drifted away.
/
Did you think me so naive?
I remember the howl of Daylight Savers
as November 2nd came crashing in
mingling with the howl of the rushing wind
unhampered by deciduous green.
/
The neighbourhood dogs seemed to notice
little difference, leading blearing-eyed wanderers
over the last of the curled dead leaves.
I wonder whether the cold touches their bones
sending shivers into their core.
Are they built for this?
Am I?
/
Now we wait,
says the porch light, flickering on at 5pm.
Now we settle inside like bears in their den
and wait for the sun again.
/
What will make me ready?
The world will quiet and I will slumber
drifting peacefully into dreams.
We will breathe deeply together.
Until the earth tilts forward tomorrow.

What a beautiful and calming piece about the changing season and waiting for winter. You captured that feeling of settling in perfectly. Congratulations on your Top Story!
Well written
The feeling of settling in for the long winter waiting for the sun again really resonated with me. It’s like the poem mirrors that mix of fatigue and hope we all feel this time of year.
Congrats on top story! Great imagery of season change
