Ashes on the Flag

Patriotism doesn’t feed a starving child.

By Emma Published 6 months ago 1 min read

hey gave us cloth to wrap our dead,

And called it pride in white and red.

But banners don’t fill mouths with bread,

And honor fades when tears are shed.

A bullet doesn’t ask your name,

A border bleeds us just the same.

And still, we rise with hollow cheer,

While no one wipes the children’s fear.
