As I Search For My People

Those designed like me

I refuse to believe that I am destined to be on my own

As a member of the human race I crave a connection,

A loving lifeline to those beautiful souls I can call mine

Others also searching for a circle of care and affection.

***

I fear the wrong connections, those incompatible souls

Leaving me forsaken, wary, cautious I will never recover,

I feel my soul has suffered, seeing it split too many times

I have become both my own worst enemy and dark lover.

***

I am a contrary beast, caring for everybody and nobody

I care deeply with either my whole heart or nothing at all,

As I don’t cope well with casual or part time connections

Preferring to invest my emotions, rather than be ‘on-call’.

***

I have become a loner, an outsider if you will, of society

Choosing to be an authentic traveller of the pure heart,

A place that calls me home, from time to time, to heal

Free to confront my demons, watching as they depart.

***

I am unique in the best and worst of ways, as are you

We are different, special for what we bring to the table,

There must be others, in this world, that feels like me

Therefore I look forward to us connecting, when able.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
