As I Live

A dark reflection on life

As I live:

Even as I live, I’m dying

With each breath I fade further away

Every step carries me closer,

Closer to the eternal grave

Yet I long for the peace I’ll find there

The complete silence of the tomb

It’s something I’ve been missing

Since long before the womb

Because this world I’m not meant for

With all its degrees of pain

That’s why I have no fear of dying

And walk peacefully along death’s lane

Smiling all the while

Longing to embrace the end

Death holds such possibilities

No need for tears my friend

This is the course of my choosing

Where infinite paths await

So unlike living,

Where emptiness always filled my plate

So as each minute passes

Counting down closer to my demise

Know that I’ve lived life

But now is the time for goodbyes.
