Are We Truly That Special?

Probably not. But that's okay, too.

Uniqueness is a beautiful trait

We'll not find many people who would argue against that

After all, it's hard to find someone

who will openly tell you they'd like to be just

one more in the crowd,

ordinarily invisible.

Most folks like to think they're special, or at least they'd like to be

It's human nature.

We have been told since birth that we must strive to be someone

A successful moneymaking career, society says.

Fame and recognition

They don't mention the mental health issues & detriment

that such might cause.

Isn’t it positive intention enough?

Then you have the artists, the eccentrics, the round pegs who will never fit

in those square holes.

And then, the geniuses. All unique because of what they create.

Their brilliance is the most magnificent deed,

for without them, we would be a terribly empty, saddest society.

Bless their uniqueness... As well as ours.

Rene Volpi

I'm from Italy and write every day. Being a storyteller by nature, I've entertained (and annoyed) people with my “experiments” since I was a child, showing everyone my primitive drawings, doodles, and poems. Still do! Leave me a comment! :)
