Are We Too Eager to Be Guides?

Why the best support is often just believing in someone's own strength

Sometimes, we're too eager to see our own experience as a guide and too afraid of hurting others, so we rush in to act as guides. What's the result? What we think is good may not be what the other person truly wants. The pitfalls we want them to avoid are actually necessary lessons for them.

I used to be quick to say, "I'm just trying to help you." Later, I slowly learned to shut up because I understood that some growth can't be achieved for someone else. Some people only learn how to navigate, where to stop, and when to let go after they've fallen, gotten hurt, and missed their chance. No matter how anxious we are, we can't fall for others. Just like a pair of beautiful shoes, if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, and no matter how long you wear them, they will never be comfortable.

At this age, I just want to live my own life well and let others face their own challenges. Respect is the purest form of gentleness; non-interference is the deepest form of compassion. It's not about letting others go; it's about trusting their strength to find their own way. It's not about being indifferent; it's about learning that "they'll get better without me." Sometimes, taking a step back at the right time can actually allow love to flow more naturally.

So now, I no longer cling to anyone's steering wheel. I simply stand quietly by, accompanying them through their falls and then their rises again.

I believe you don't need me to save you; you need someone who believes you can make it. We each have our own pace. Other people's lives are not our own. True love is non-interference, allowing them the freedom to be themselves.
