Archenemies To Friends And Lovers
Turning the impossible to possible

I wake every morning
I am never totally sure,
Who is in control today
What is really in store?
***
On my left shoulder
Is a little guy in black,
Fluttering dirty wings
On duty for the pack.
***
My demons take turns
Guarding my shoulder,
Insisting I break the rules
If I want to get any older.
***
If I so much as disagree
My demon pack will fight,
I’ll be bloody and bruised
With nightmares at night.
***
There’s my right shoulder
Lighter and oddly silent,
As one of my angels sits
Stubborn but not violent.
***
My angels sport haloes
Brightly shining with joy,
Tiny white wings hover
Singing melodies I enjoy.
***
Imagine my surprise
When my demons call,
Upon my angels today
So I expected a brawl.
***
Instead they befriended
Both shoulders now free,
Demons join with angels
No arguing, they agree.
***
Now on each shoulder
My lovers happily reside,
One dark and one light
One groom and one bride.
***
Each couple now insists
Their love not be denied,
The good and bad merge
And I smile, full of pride.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
