Part 1:

The Hat

she had a hat

that

looked like

a ninety dollar cake

soft spongy centre

all icing and surprise

it caught

the ice in her eyes

it complimented

the spice in her lies

it matched

the vice in her sighs

and secret promises

that lay between her thighs

.

Part 2:

The Cat

she had a little black cat

in a little black bag

both her

and the cat

were shy little things

angels really,

despite the lack of wings

.

Part 3:

Threads an Strings an Things

her face gave no clues

to her cold heart warmed

every seven years she told herself

as this version of her formed

she loved unconditionally

her heart was an ocean

prone to storm and swell

and other aquatic commotion

she laughed uncontrollably

refreshing, contagious

giggles that steered and veered

to the dark, the outrageous

she was rough when she wanted

dark of hair, sultry, vivacious

she was down to earth honest

homespun pure gracious

she cried like a lady

the tears of a girl

she’d been a lot, seen a lot

in her cold ugly world

she didn’t let it shake her

she couldn’t let it break her

she was able to choose the parts

that would shape and make her
