April 5th

Bittersweet Celebrations

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I saw you in the mist today

Gently rising from the road

My heart had so much to say

Though I knew that you were gone

My shadow sat beside me

So, I wouldn’t be alone

We chatted about memories

Scrolling pictures on my phone

Today it is your birthday

The first one since you left

melancholy found a way

to have its thoughts expressed

The sun climbed high into the sky

as if to say "good morning boo"

A soft and gentle butterfly

fluttered in the morning dew

So many things can take me back

to the memories we made

Each one so special, in fact

I'd never trade a single day

So, I'll wish you happy birthday

I hope that you enjoy the view

I wanted to take this time to say

I miss you dad, I love you

This is a wonderful tribute to your Dad. It's so poignant. I lost my Dad 14 months ago, I miss in so much. I feel he is with me. I'm sure your Dad can feel this beautiful love in your poem.

Beutifully penned, as always, Kelli. I'm sure he knows.

Great work. My dad's birthday is April 30 and I wish he was still here. I will see him again just not sure when.
