The apple , in Biblical terms, is the fruit of sin - it tempted Eve to eat the fruit in the Garden of Eden which God expressly forbade her to.

Consequently, it has become the fruit of awareness and knowledge. It still is a symbol of temptation, so biting into it may not be as gratifying as one thinks.

Pure red

Feast for the eyes

Soothing for soul yearning

For the taste of fruit so sweet and

Different

Round shape

Simple  allure

Causes the unfed soul

To stir so with wild abandon

And bite

Sweetness

Taste so cloying

Ever sticks to the tongue

And convinces it to part with

Owner

Its juices

Titillate as

They wash over the one

Who bites and teases the senses

No sense

Bitten

And at its core

Flesh over ripe, rotten

Sits grandly, its form frightening

A worm.
