The Shepherd
A poem illustrating the human condition
Shepherding is a lonely profession. Shepherds often spend time by themselves herding sheep; alone on hilltops or farmlands, they seldom communicate with
anyone. The feeling of isolation can have negative connotations - no one should spend too much time alone.
Shepherd
A lonely soul
He combs the vast hilltops
for a home
To call
His own
Shepherd
Sole figure
His silhouette
Oddly placed
Out of sync
With the land
Shepherd
On his own
With only sheep
to seek
for solace
Shepherd
The Lord
of the hills
that he shares
with no one else
Shepherd
Who graces sheep
With his lonely presence
Still needs someone whom he can call
A friend.
