The jagged line in the sidewalk
remind me of times when we’d talk.
We’d sit on the curb
making up words,
anything to make us laugh,
anything so time would pass.
Anything,
anything at all.
We painted faces in the sidewalk
with bits and pieces of pink chalk.
We’d wipe off the dirt
right onto our shirts.
Anything to make us smile,
anything to laugh a while.
Anything,
anything at all.
We played pretend out in the sunshine,
what we’d refer to as “the good times.”
“Hey, have you heard…
…that bird is the word?”
Anything to make us laugh,
anything so time would pass.
Anything,
anything at all.
That summer’s end was so divine,
the greatest memory of mine.
I guess you never know
how fast the time will go.
Anything to make us smile,
anything to laugh a while,
Anything…
anything at all.
