Heavenly voice

Tis said that wolves do howl at thee

We do not

As I hope you'll see

For howling be such noisy choice

Not suited to our songful voice

When singing sweetly as we do

We may well raise a prayer to you

But tuneful is our tasteful lilt

When choral cloister beats full tilt

Though blessed be your lunar light

It does not guide our paths at night

While hunting we use scent and sound

To chase our breakfast to the ground

Our songful story we do speak

In poetry with lyric beat

Our hearts are strong and true when this

Our anthem we do cry betwixt

Our brethren and our sister kin

You will not find us making din

And though we lift our heads up high

When singing to the moonlit sky

We be not raising praise to thee

It's just the way our throats must be

It helps to point our snouts up high

When carrying our voices by

The endless vapours in between

Ourselves and all our wolfy clan

So if your mortal subjects do

Our heav'nly singing misconstrue

By your good grace pray show them how

We chant

We sing

We do not howl

Beautiful words on behalf of the wolves and those videos are great - it was quite wonderful to hear them as I read and reread your words!

This was such a joy to read. I love how you gave the wolves such a dignified, poetic voice.

Excellent job, poems like this remind me that poetry is not my forte

Hauntingly beautiful! I hope it's a submission for the "Poetry of the Hunt" challenge, as well. To my brain, it works on so many levels! The word "hunt" means "wolf" in Estonian (pronounced differently, but still. Don’t listen to the Google Translate pronunciation, please, it’s painfully wrong)

  • That's a wonderful take on the challenge, love the lupine slant
