The Story of Fibromyalgia

It is not a cold, it is not in our head

It is not always easy to get out of bed

It brings about pain, depression, and brain fog

It is like having drains that all need unclogged

Sleep doesn't stop it or help it get better

Sometimes the symptoms feel like they will last forever

Tell others your fine, it is just another day

People don't really want to hear about it anyway

The doctors, employers, even some family and friends

Simply believe it is all in your head

Hiking, walking, a night out with friends,

All things you love seem to come to an end

You don't have the energy, the will or the drive

Usually you decide to be left behind

If life would be normal for just one day

The things you could accomplish without it in your way

Never know how it will be one day to the next

Most days you feel like your life is a train wreck

Keep fighting and searching for the way to be free

Free of a disease that no one can see

Don't look sick, but feel it the same

Fibromyalgia, what an awful name

Don't judge too harshly those whose pain you can't see

They have to live with it indefinitely

It is not a cold, it is not in my head

It is not always easy to get out of bed

About the Creator

Virginia Scarbrough

I love poetry and putting my feelings into words - words that can help others, words to give thought, encouragement and hope. Sharing pain, joy and raw emotions... that is the beauty of true poetry to me
