Another Day in the Life

A morning run turns mesmerising

Another day in the life he thought,

But that thought would prove unfounded,

Chance took its aim and to him it brought,

Destiny, which left him quite astounded

Early that morn he stumbled out of bed,

Friday it was, and time to chase the sun,

Good day he reckoned, to find a road to tread,

His legs and his feet found themselves on the run

In a while he wound his way to a traffic-light turned red,

Jogging on the spot with those fellow early-risers,

Knees churning and arms flying as they waited to get ahead,

Lo and behold, for who was this; a stop full of surprises!

Mandy it was, hard to believe, his former high-school crush,

Nonchalantly bouncing on her toes and grinning in delight,

Others bumped them close together, trying to avoid the rush,

Predicting when their turn would come, like eager birds in flight

Questions flew around his head; she ran, in the early hours?

Running wasn’t the game for her, least it hadn’t been back then,

So he tried to ask her while simultaneously sucking air,

To which she laughed and explained, while waiting til they could go again

Under and over and through and around,

Vibes in every way until they felt lost

When finally spying a red light they found,

X marked the spot where this morn they had crossed

Yes it’s just a run you say, so we’ll have to wait and see,

Zig and zag their shoes did make; a run that was meant to be?
