Another Autumn

A poem about the season

By Rasma RaistersPublished about a year ago 1 min read

As summer seems to be dancing away,

I long to keep it close to me.

I realize that a change of season

often brings us a bit of sadness

as the gray, rain clouds of autumn,

darken the skies.

Then I think that I may want,

to capture summer in my heart,

so that when the first cold winds,

come blowing along,

I can remember the warmth -

that the summer brought.

There is a touch of sadness,

along with gladness,

of the changes that will come.

Seems as the seasons change,

it is you my friend I remember

and our days beneath the summer sun,

we would wander.

So very long ago,

leaving behind so many precious memories,

of summers that have been.

Soon migratory birds will take to the skies,

their farewells heard far and wide.

while small and insignificant,

I’ll remain here below,

waving farewells till they return in the spring.

Then I can look forward

to another autumn -

that will bring many different colors.

Many different sights and smells,

the aroma of apple cider,

wafting about,

baking apple pies

and the tang of autumn bonfires.

As the colorful leaves,

drift from the trees

and come swirling about me,

in a delightful dance.

As the crisp cold winds,

color my cheeks red.

There will be no time for sadness,

just gladness for the wonder -

another season will bring.
